A sponsor plays an essential role in the journey of someone interested in becoming Catholic. A sponsor is a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, who accompanies the catechumen or candidate during the rites and period of election, initiation, and mystagogy. A sponsor must be willing to participate in RCIA sessions and related activities as required by the parish.
